Body Rider BR1680 Elliptical Review

I’ve never had to review a Body Rider piece of home equipment, and I was told that I was in for a treat. Apparently that was sarcasm. Well, I’ll try not to use any in this review.

The Body Rider BR1680 Elliptical was introduced sometime near the end of 2012 or the beginning of 2013. It’s an elliptical machine that’s pretty inexpensive compared to most other popular models.

This model was designed for small spaces and small budgets. With a maximum user weight of 250 lbs, the Body Rider BR1680 elliptical is probably best suited to those who need a quick workout when other equipment isn’t readily available.

The Body Rider BR1680 uses magnetic resistance to control how difficult your workout is. Using an easy-to-reach knob on the center shaft of the unit, simply tighten or loosen the tension to increase or back off the amount of resistance.

It also has a very small footprint for an elliptical. At just over 4′ long and 2′ wide, the Body Rider BR1680 is very easy to find room for. It weighs around 70 lbs and doesn’t have transport wheels, but it shouldn’t be too difficult for most people to move around.

The console consists of the operational buttons as well as an LCD display that monitors total workout time, calories burned, speed, distance and heart rate when using the contact heart rate monitor pads on the inner handles.

The footpads and stride length are probably most appropriate for smaller people. I’d guess that anyone taller than 5′ 8″ is probably going to be uncomfortable, as the footpads aren’t very big and the stride length doesn’t seem particularly long.

And I’m not the only one who doesn’t feel this isn’t a great example of an elliptical. It is a relatively new machine and not many customer reviews are available, but the few that I did find at the time of this writing were very poor and found the Body Rider BR1680 to be unsatisfactory.

The bottom line is that any elliptical in this price range is going to be risky at best. If you want something that’s going to be a bit more reliable – and I do mean a bit, I’d suggest looking at the Schwinn A40. It’s a little more expensive and still not great but it has a slightly better track record and more features. If you can’t afford it, then I’d suggest going for something else entirely, like a few videos and some weights.
